Number two of the World tennis Rafael Nadal playing in the condition of burnt fingers, managed to beat French qualifier Julian Benneteau, 6-4, 7-5, at tournaments ATP and WTA hardcourt in Cincinnati on Wednesday.
"I was controlling the match most of the time," Nadal said about his second victory. "I played very bad game with the score 5-4 before the match, but the rest of the game I guess I am in control and I played well."
The Spanish left-hander, who burnt middle finger and index finger of his right hand, must be careful with the punches "backhand" him because he uses his right hand to help make a stroke. He bandaged the fingers with the bandages of the match.
Nadal burned his fingers when he touched a hot dish in a restaurant earlier this week. "Dish is very hot and I burn," said Nadal.
Nadal produces nine "ace" and only do one double fault on the 93rd minute matches in the main square. He won 85 percent of first serves and utilize all three of opportunity "break points".
He said he was pleased with the type of game that comes along but says he needs to improve consistency because he was playing his last tournament before the U.S. Open, Grand Slam final this year that will begin in two weeks.
"My serve went well today," he said. "I earned a very good shot almost all the time on the 'forehand' me. I guess I undergo a nearly everything well.
"I do many things well, but not at any point. I played three good points and after that I played two bad points. So I headed in the right direction, but I need to continue to compete."
Nadal will next face compatriot Fernando Verdasco, who beat Michael Llodra of France 6-4, 6-4.
